Big&Small Co. helps save the planet one T-shirt at a time

Spin Big&Small Company, the umbrella company of leading children’s clothes brands Big&Small, Spin, and Orange Juice, as well as the high fashion boutique brand for moms H.A.B Maternity and More, recently forged a partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Philippines) to support its programs on climate change, environmental protection, and wildlife conservation. The collaboration is proof of Big&Small Company’s commitment to do its share in helping save the planet.

Recent studies from the WWF have shown how our planet is deteriorating: the global temperature is rising at an alarming level, the list of endangered animals is growing, and our forests are thinning rapidly. These are all indicators of how desperately our planet needs our care and attention. Considering that 35% of all Filipinos are younger than 15, forging a new breed of environmentalists is essential to usher in the new Cultural Revolution needed to save planet Earth.

As a company reaching out to wide range of clientele – specifically young, hip moms who are instrumental in molding succeeding generations, the partnership aims to advance climate change awareness through a line of green-themed T-shirts. The T-shirts will impart strong messages about the environment and sensible tips on reducing individual carbon footprints. When enough people heed the tips, the debilitating effects of climate change can be mitigated.

“We see this partnership as a way for us to communicate to moms that we can teach our kids at an early age the importance of caring for our environment,” shares Joanna Duarte, President of Big&Small Company. “We are all very excited with this endeavor as we will be able to communicate, through clients who will proudly wear our WWF-themed designs, our standpoint on important issues such as environmental protection, wildlife preservation, and climate change.”

To minimize the ecological Orange Juiceeffects of production, WWF works hand-in-hand with corporations to assess the life-cycle impacts of their products on natural resources, climate change, human health and local biodiversity. The entire life-cycle is assessed—from sourcing out raw materials, manufacturing, transportation and finally to waste processing and disposal.

Big&Small Company has been a faithful advocate of the green revolution. To further ensure that its operations are eco-friendly, WWF will measure the ecological footprint of Big&Small Company to ensure an integrated and transparent approach to sustainability.

According to WWF, the partnership aims to make consumers aware of how their purchases affect the environment to get them to shift from a wasteful to sustainable lifestyle. The best solution is to reduce energy and material consumption. The next best thing is to purchase relatively sustainable products.

“Forward-thinking companies like the Big&Small Co. display brand leadership through vision, innovation and a responsibility to the environment. Hopefully, the effects will trickle down when the children grow-up,” says Susan Roxas, Marketing and Corporate Relations Head of WWF.

To celebrate its partnership with the WWF, the Big&Small Company, through its carrier brands Big&Small, Spin, Orange Juice and H.A.B, will showcase its WWF T-shirt collection through a kids fashion show on June 2, 2009. The event will showcase kids parading in WWF T-shirt designs that will encourage others in doing their share to protect our planet.

In helping save the world through its small, concerted efforts, the Big&Small Company genuinely shows that no small effort will go unnoticed when you dream big for future generations.
